  1. Group 2's response to the Pedagogical Serendipity Article:

    Lacey says:

I thought that this article was really cool. It was very interesting to see that way that one teacher was able to connect with a whole group of people, in hardly any time at all. While he was doing other things, people were posting comments for him and helping him to come up with a great idea for a lesson plan. I thought that using all of those sources of technology to create a lesson about farms for kindergartners was a brilliant idea. In my opinion, that was a great idea to create a voicethread.

Danna says: I thought it was amazing how this one person got so many different forms of feedback for one question. Twitter seems like a great connection and resource tool. As I get to be better at the internet I really enjoy it. I love that we have awesome resources at our fingertips. We can capitalize on so many different peoples ideas and knowledge. I think that it is never too late for kids to start learning about computers and the knowledge found within them.

    Nathan says:

This was a very interesting article. At first I didn't know if I was reading an article, a blog, or some kind of thread. I agree with what you (Lacey) said though, that it's pretty amazing how fast information can be shared thanks to the internet, and socializing tools, like blogs, twitter, etc. If someone can gather that much information and opinions in such a short amount of time, then there really is no excuse of being unprepared or lost.

We were not aware that things like twittter and facebook would be used as a postive influence in education today but after reading the article we feel that technology can be used as more of a positive thing in the classroom. It has helped us to see the way we can use online technology to help those students in a classroom. We agree that for those students that the best way for them to learn about farming was to hear from actual farmers. As future teachers we need to use these resources to our advantage to become better teachers.
On the other hand some of us didn't feel that "Twitter" was as affective of a way since it is an overkill of facebook. It was good though that she used the resources that were available to her.

    • I really liked the idea of “How Twitter saved my Kindergarten Class”. I think using internet sites such as twitter and facebook is a great way to collaborate lesson plans. Lots of times I’ll have questions about homework or a class so I’ll write a post on facebook and I have always received an answer back from somebody right away. I don’t use twitter but I’m sure it works the same way. When I have my own class and I need a little advise I’ll probably do the same thing.

    • I thought that it was really amazing to see how much technology can help a teacher come up with ideas. Being able to collaborate and talk with teachers is very important andI think that Twitter provides a great new tool to help teachers from all around the world better their lesson plans and classroom enviornment. Technology is a growing part in the education field and it is a great tool to use, so i think it is our responsibility as future teachers to take advantage of this and use it to improve the education system.

    • I enjoyed reading the article and seeing how the world has evolved. i agree to what you have said that twitter and facebook does help because people can even get this programs on their phone and instantly they see someone needs help, and they get help. In the future i would use the computer to help my class and hopefully be as successful as this guy. :)Also using all of those sources of technology to create a lesson about farms for K's is a great way!

We really liked the part where they said that both students and teachers can benifit from having technology in the classroom. Its a collaborative feature and we feel the same way when they say that students and teachers do have the opportunity to learn together.

It is so true and many can understand the situation today, as we have all probably been there before... Trying to find information and ideas today can be a challenge, and using technology such as twitter gives us the chance to not only communicate with people we know, but anyone all over the world, and we dont even have to give our real names, etc which protects our identity :)It definitely comes in handy, and makes direct communication a possibility.

We are so lucky to have technology today, it's right at our finger tips. We can see that twitter worked really well for her. Right now we are all not too familiar with Twitter but once we get into it, and understand how to use it, collaboration will be much easier.

What we have learned from this is that it not only allows us to communicate with people we know, it opens up the communication with people from around the world and different perspectives on the subject we're inquiring of. And if we have an idea, we can share it as well. Although there are definately times when our creative juices werent flowing, through these collaborative sites we as teachers can help eachother out and especially work towards our goal together as teachers which is to educate our future and also have fun while we're doing it.

So all in all, Twitter was definitely an advantage in this teacher wife. awesome way to get ideas and help from people all over the world and your friends too. It is nice to know that you do not have to figure EVERYTHING out for yourself and that there are people with ideas and willing to help.

We definitely have the advantage today and continue to do so as technology and ways of communication increase. Learning has not only become a process but in a way a tool of success. We feel that these things like twitter also help to make things fun, interesting and exciting and does encourage learning in simple ways and is not limited

We think its great we have this technology which allows us to connect to the outside world, but we also think technology can be used as an excuse to be lazy. Teachers are capable of original thought and creativity.. technology can hinder our capacity to trust and rely on ourselves. The fact is, that technology does make people lazy especially teachers using all these technology in the classroom that they can hardly teach. We think technology has its own advantages and disadvantages. People say too much of something is bad, well, educators need only pick out what will benefit the class on that given day. Really the question is what method of teaching are educators going to use in the near future and how is that going to benefit those future generations?

We thought this story was a really cute and fun way to illustrate the practical and helpful uses of the internet and internet apps like Twitter and Facebook. We thought it was a good idea of this teacher to use Twitter as a resource, but we also talked about how it was a last resort. Twitter and facebook shouldn't really be used as way to plan a lesson or find activities for a lesson. While other resources on the internet would be better for finding lesson plans and ideas, Twitter and Facebook are good LAST resorts or quick fixes. As a group, we just really agreed that teachers shouldn't rely on scuh websites.
